Yvonne Thomas, owner and director of Yvonne’s Direction in Dance, volunteered her time to instruct the kindergarten through sixth-grade students at Gramercy Elementary Magnet School. The instruction was intended to introduce students to the art of ballet. Thomas shared her love and knowledge of ballet with the students as they learned basic terminology and were given opportunities to demonstrate each movement. Kimberly Duhe’, dance instructor at GEMS, took her fifth- and sixth-grade students to a live ballet performance of “The Nutcracker – A Tale from the Bayou” in mid-December.
