LAPLACE – A Kenner man was arrested Monday for stealing air conditioner units from a LaPlace hotel.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 3912 U.S. Highway 51 in LaPlace at the Days Inn Hotel for the report of someone stealing commercial air conditioner units. The air conditioners were stored on the property outside the Days Inn Hotel under a blue tarp.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Dwayne Dewey, 50, of Kenner sped away in an older model pickup truck when confronted by the owner of the hotel. Deputies located and stopped Dewey. They found commercial air conditioner units in the bed of the pickup truck.
Dewey was arrested and booked with theft of $1,500 or more, criminal trespassing and operating a vehicle while license is suspended. Dewey remains in custody on a $27,000 bond.
