There are more ways for girls grades K through 12 to participate in Girl Scouts than ever. To learn more about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and to register girls in Girl Scouts or to find out about volunteering, go to a St. Charles Parish recruitment event on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Drive, in Destrehan, or at the West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Drive, in Luling. Other registration events can be found on the local Girl Scout council website at www.gsle.org.
In addition to joining a Girl Scout troop, which is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills and make a difference through community service, Girl Scouts offers other “Pathways” for girls who may not be able to participate over a span of nine to 12 months, or who are interested in certain themes or topics.
“In Girl Scouts, we recognize that girls have different interests, and as they grow older, they may wish to spend more time doing one particular activity, whether it’s participating in our Wrangler horseback riding program, or a financial empowerment or science-related series of activities,” said Robin Guillmette, chief operations officer at Girl Scouts Louisiana East.
“While joining a Girl Scout troop is still a tried and true approach to Girl Scouting, we want to attract girls who may wish to pick and choose from a menu of events and activities. The possibilities are endless.”
Membership is $15 per year for girls and adults, making it a positive and affordable option for today’s busy families. No girl is turned away for financial reasons.
