LAPLACE – An innocuous traffic stop in Garyville led to a major controlled substance arrest last Friday.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Garyville Northern. The driver of the vehicle told the investigating deputy he did not have a driver’s license. During the traffic stop, the deputy also noticed an open can of beer on the console of the vehicle and recovered approximately $40 worth of crack cocaine from the driver’s seat.
The driver was identified as Wayne Johnson, 32. He was arrested and booked with possession of schedule II CDS and cited for three traffic violations. He bonded out on a $10,000 bond. Johnson was arrested 36 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since January 1997.
