LAPLACE – Voters in St. John the Baptist Parish gave their nod of approval to the School Board for a $10,180,000 bond issue.

The measured passed by a margin of 60 percent to 40 percent. Only 1,200 people cast votes in the Saturday election.

The funds from the bond sale will be used for the recovery of the two schools in the parish heavily damaged by Hurricane Isaac’s floodwaters.

In neighboring St. Charles Parish, the results of the District 2 Council election were a little less clear. According to unofficial election results from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website, William “Billy” Woodruff edged Mary Keller Clulee by a margin of 20 votes.

Nearly 1,700 people voted in that election.
