LULING – Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a
pedestrian in St. Charles Parish that occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday.
Wadie Ray Willis, 46, of Bakersville, N.C., was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 90 East at Pier 90.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Tramaine Leday, 32, of Lafayette was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 east on U.S. 90 in the right lane. Willis was in the right lane of travel and was struck by the Ford F-150.  Speed and impairment are not considered factors of the crash, but Leday submitted to a chemical test and toxicology tests will be performed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
A representative of the law enforcement agency said that dark clothing and lack of lighting in area are considered contributing factors in the accident. Toxicology results for Willis are pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain
vigilant while on area roadways and pay
close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks, where accessible, or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing and stay out of travel lanes at all times.
