LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish recorded its sixth homicide of the year Friday when sheriff’s deputies discovered the body of man near Capt. G. Bourgeois Street.
On March 8 at 2:15 p.m., St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Captain G. Bourgeois Street for a medical assistance call. When they arrived, deputies found an unresponsive male subject with an apparent gunshot wound. The subject was pronounced dead on the scene, appearing to have been there for some time. The victim was identified as Jeremy Diggs, 26, of State Street in LaPlace.
On Thursday, March 7, Diggs’ mother reported to authorities that she had not heard from her son since Sunday evening. She said that it was normal that she would not see her son daily, but he would always find a way to call her every day. She reported him missing because several people told her her son had been killed and was either near the levee or train tracks in Milesville. Deputies searched possible locations for Diggs at that time.
Anyone with information regarding this homicide is encouraged to call the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office tip line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
