LAPLACE– Monday’s St. Charles Parish Council meeting introduced an ordinance to approve a contract between the parish and CERES Environmental Services Inc. for disaster debris removal and recovery services. The ordinance will be up for public hearing at the council’s Feb. 4 meeting.
Work will consist of clearing and removing any and all eligible debris from the public right-of-way of streets and roads, as directed by the parish. The work will include examining debris to determine whether or not it is eligible, loading and hauling the debris to the approved dumpsite or landfill and dumping the debris.
Ineligible debris will not be loaded, hauled or dumped under the contract.
St. Charles Parish issued a request to create a proposal for disaster debris removal services in order to select a contractor to hire. Proposals were received in October, and CERES was awarded the contract, which was set to begin Jan. 1 and end on Dec. 31, 2016.
