The LSU AgCenter Healthy Communities has awarded a mini grant to the St. John the Baptist Healthy Community Coalition. The Coalition will be partnering with the St. John the Baptist Library to offer programs on nutrition and gardening. The first program will be in October, “Fall Veggies and Roasted Roots.
Join Rona Joseph, Programming Coordinator, St. John the Baptist Library and the LSU AgCenter Agents to learn about fall gardening and how to prepare fall vegetables. Planting fall vegetables is a great way to enjoy your garden and fresh produce during the cooler months. Andre’ Brock, County Agent, will be sharing fall gardening tips and Rinalda Rocquin, Area Nutrition Agent, will be demonstrating how to prepare root vegetables for roasting and the use of an air fryer. This event is open to everyone, but we would like to encourage families to come learn together the joys of gardening and cooking. Participants will be helping prepare vegetables for roasting and enjoy sampling the dish. There will also be “grow bags,” seeds and plants for everyone to take home.
The programs will be held at the following libraries:
Roland Borne, Sr. Memorial Library in Edgard on October 16th at 10:00 a.m.
Frazee-Harris Memorial Library in Garyville on October 16th at 4:00 p.m.
Norris J. Millet, Sr. Library in LaPlace on October 17th at 10:00 a.m.
Reservations are required due to limited space. Please call (985) 785-4473 or email rrocquin@agcenter.lsu.edu for more information or to make reservations.
