LAPLACE — Ascension of Our Lord students in preschool participated in an exciting activity during library time — a snow day.

Librarian Rhea Champagne read “The Snowy Day,” by Ezra Jack Keats, and afterwards students got to experience what it feels like to play in the snow.

Since most children in Louisiana don’t get the opportunity to experience a snow day, Champagne wanted to provide her students with a hands-on activity to simulate the experience.

The 4- and 5-year-olds had fun making snowballs with Insta-Snow, an amazing polymer that turns into a white fluffy substance that looks and feels like real snow.

It’s even cold to the touch.

After reading the fiction book to her students, Champagne talked about the “real,” or non-fiction, part of the snow, creating a real life experience for her students to make the story more memorable.
