Marrero – On Saturday July 8, 2023, shortly after 6:00 a.m. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 45 (Barataria Boulevard) near Pritchard Road in Marrero. The crash claimed the life of 30-year-old Kyle Wooton of Marrero.
The initial investigation revealed that Wooton was driving a 2017 Suzuki GX1300R motorcycle south on Barataria Boulevard near Pritchard Road. For reasons still under investigation, Wooton failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the Suzuki traveled off the roadway and ultimately became airborne, causing Wooton to be ejected.
Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Wooton suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is unknown, however as part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample will be obtained and submitted for analysis.
Troopers encourage all riders to attend an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Anyone interested in attending motorcycle safety courses can go to http://lsp.org/motorcycle.html for more information. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
