LAPLACE — Students at St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace recently participated in the school’s third annual Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Party, which invites all of the school’s students to bring supplies and carve or decorate pumpkins during their lunch hour.

St. Charles Catholic’s Beta Club and its 80 members host the event this year. Beta Club President Elizabeth Watson said the club provides the snacks for the party, and each year awards are handed out after the decorating and carving fun ends.

Dr. Courtney Millet, SCC’s director of institutional advancement, said the “Beta Club sponsors the pumpkin contest because fall is a wonderful time for the students to spend time together and enjoy the beautiful autumn weather.”

The 2014 winners for the event included Madeline Murphy and her Cookie Monster pumpkin for Funniest Pumpkin, Tiffani and Taylor Miller and their Tinkerbell pumpkin for Most Creative Pumpkin and Kennedy Williams and The Hulk pumpkin for Scariest Pumpkin.

Cameron Williams’ carved pumpkin won the award for Best Traditional Pumpkin, and Amelie Terry and Avante’ Blakeney were each awarded Honorable Mention for their Mummy and Cinderella pumpkins, respectively.
