Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested two men for alleged operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI) on July 9 in St. Mary Parish.
Agents arrested Albert T. Hebert Jr., 57, of Berwick, for DWI on the water, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the Atchafalaya River. Agents also arrested David McQuiston, 50, of Jeanerette, for DWI on the water in the Atchafalaya River.
Agents were on patrol on the Atchafalaya River when they made contact with Hebert Jr. while he was operating a vessel. Agents detected that Hebert Jr. was impaired and arrested him for DWI. Agents also found Hebert Jr. in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Later on the same patrol on the Atchafalaya River, agents made contact with McQuiston while he was operating a vessel. Agents detected that McQuiston was impaired and arrested him for DWI.
Agents booked Hebert Jr. and McQuiston into the St. Mary Parish Jail.
The penalties for DWI are the same as driving a vehicle. Anyone cited for a DWI on the water or on the road will lose his or her driver’s license and boating privileges for the specified time ordered by the judge in the case.
DWI brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. Possession of marijuana carries up to a $100 fine. Possession of drug paraphernalia brings up to a $300 fine and 15 days in jail.
Agents participating in the case are Lt. Scott Dupre, Corporal Chris Hebert and Sgt. Jake Darden.
