LULING — Sheriff Greg Champagne was honored to present the Award for Valor to Corporal Adam “Bud” Coley of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office during a staff meeting on May 10.

On November 16, 2021, deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting on Villere Drive in Destrehan, LA. Corporal Coley was the second deputy to arrive on the scene after a Levee District unit. Corporal Coley covered the suspected shooter while directing incoming deputies, keeping in mind that the location of the patient and Levee District Officer was unknown. As another deputy arrived on the scene, Corporal Coley identified the suspected shooter and proceeded inside a residence to locate the missing Levee District Officer and other potential shooters and/or patients. Corporal Coley began clearing the residence and located the Levee District Officer and patient with a gunshot wound inside the bathroom of the residence. Seeing the condition of the patient, Corporal Coley knew that time was of the essence and began to perform life-saving measures. Corporal Coley instructed the Levee District Officer to cover the doorway while he applied tourniquets, a chest seal, and wound packing on a combative patient.

Corporal Coley put his personal safety in jeopardy in order to save the life of another. It is for these reasons that Corporal Adam “Bud” Coley was presented with the Award for Valor.
