HAHNVILLE — The suspect in St. Charles Parish’s third homicide of 2014 was arrested Monday, accused in Friday morning’s fatal shooting at Butt Cuts Bar in Hahnville.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said Boutte resident Larry C. Thompson, 35, of 168 Boutte Estates Drive was developed as a suspect in the shooting due to a dispute he and the victim had over a female acquaintance.

Kenner police spokesman Lt. Brian McGregor said members of the Kenner Police Department and U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast task force took Thompson into custody around 11:30 a.m. Monday at a female acquaintance’s apartment, located at 629 Vouray Drive in Kenner.

Thompson was initially booked in Kenner as a fugitive, McGregor said, and then released into the custody of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, which booked him for second degree murder and aggravated battery.

Thompson remains incarcerated.

Champagne said members of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast task force “have worked around the clock” since the shooting, adding information from the public greatly aided the investigation.

Law enforcement authorities conducted surveillance on the apartment building where they found Thompson’s car hidden, Champagne said, adding it was the same place he was arrested.

“We were able to put a plan together and arrest him without incident,” Champagne said, adding he was happy about the arrest. “He’ll now have to face his due process in court.”

Additional charges to anyone who knowingly harbored Thompson may be forthcoming, Champagne said.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday authorities responded to a call of gunshots at Butt Cuts Bar, discovering a subject on the floor of the bar suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as David Scott, 23, of Houston was pronounced dead on the scene.

A second shooting victim arrived at St. Charles Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the foot, Champagne said, adding the victim was treated and released. Capt. Patrick Yoes said the victim appeared to be an innocent bystander.
