Thanks for the opportunity to highlight actions and successes from your Chamber. I hope you are enjoying the many festivals and gatherings taking place throughout St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. Two months ago, I introduced myself and asked you to get involved and to engage with RRCC, and I’m pleased to report we’re off to a great start.
I hope you were able to attend our annual breakfast meeting at Belle Terre Country Club. The energy in the room was palpable as more than 150 business and government leaders assembled to network, enjoy a delicious breakfast, and to hear from Paul Matthews, executive director of the Port of South Louisiana. Paul displays an unyielding confidence and commitment to our parishes and our businesses and seeks collaboration across Southeast Louisiana. The meeting ended with Kiki Mannear stoking our competitive spirits with River Parishes and Louisiana trivia. She was terrific and had many attendees shouting answers!
Your chamber is committed to delivering through our committees. This starts with our Executive Director Chassity McComack and Operations Manager Rosemary Chauvin. Our ambassadors are led by Chairwoman Danaya Gathers and Co-chair Michele Millet. Business Development is led by Chair Dayna James and co-chair Rachael Burns. The Communications committee is led by Emile Broussard III and co-chair Brice Hinchman. Workforce Development is led by Penny Shumaker and Co-chair Tricia Thompson. Public Policy is led by Chair Bub Millet and co-chair Jay Robichaux. Each committee is finalizing their 2022 goals and recruiting committee members. Information on these committees can be found on our website at www.riverregionchamber.org.
Save our website as a favorite or bookmark it to keep up with events and networking opportunities. Plans are being finalized for this year’s hurricane preparedness seminar and after the last two years, and Ida in particular, there cannot be too much preparation. Later in second quarter, back by popular demand, is the River Region Chamber Reverse Trade Show. Much thanks and appreciation to Dayna and Rachael and the Business Development Committee for launching this forum to connect small businesses with large industry in the River Region. This event will take place Thursday, June 30, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Charles Community Center, located at 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling. Another anticipated event will be our golf tournament in the fall. Stay tuned as details unfold for that one.
My expectation of our team is to be the catalyst for a regional approach to networking and collaboration that builds community, reinforces growth and responds to your needs. Please share any ideas you have by reaching out to the chamber or by emailing me directly at scott.burton@coxmedia.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
