Update: State Police Investigating Deputy-Involved Shooting in St. John the Baptist Parish

**UPDATE**
The initial investigation revealed deputies with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Interstate 10 and US 51 after receiving 911 calls of a vehicle that ran off the highway and was partially submerged. On arrival, Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle that had traveled off the roadway and into the marsh area. Deputies approached the vehicle, which was occupied by the driver, 19-year-old Kendell Prembrook of Laplace, and passenger, 20-year-old Jacoby Williams of Gramercy. During the encounter with the two occupants, a deputy fired one shot from his duty weapon, striking Williams. Deputies immediately transported Williams to a local hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition. One AK-47 style firearm and one 9mm handgun were recovered from the scene.
Louisiana State Police will provide additional information as the investigation develops.
Laplace – On April 3, 2022, around 6:00 am, Louisiana State Police were requested by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a shooting incident involving one of their deputies. The incident occurred around 5:00 am on the Interstate 10 west on-ramp from US 51. Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations (BOI) are investigating the incident.
Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Evidence Control Unit (ECU) are responding to assist BOI in processing the scene.
Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency. This is an active investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
