Tell us about yourself. How did you get started on your career path?
I originally got started at RTC after Hurricane Katrina took away my job. I found an opening as a marketing assistant with RTC, and I’ve continued to grow with my company.
Outside of your immediate job, you maintain involvement with several community organizations. Why is it important to you to stay active as a public servant?
Being involved in many boards and councils is essential to creating and giving back to the community where I work and live. Social responsibility is not just for the corporate sector. As residents of the river region, we should seek out organizations that can help better our communities. In a post-Ida world, we have ample opportunity to volunteer and give back to a genuinely suffering region. St. John Parish is my home, and I am proud to serve my community in any capacity necessary to try and move us forward to a better future.
What’s your proudest accomplishment so far?
My proudest personal accomplishment is watching my son choose his path forward. He is 15 years old and a freshman at Brother Martin High School. My husband and I have worked hard as a team to give him the encouragement and support he needs to make the decisions that lead him to a bright future and carve out his place in this hectic world. My proudest professional accomplishment is my appointment to the Port of South Louisiana Commission by Governor John Bel Edwards. I am humbled and honored to represent St. John Parish as a commissioner.
As a new commissioner, what insight or perspective do you hope to bring to the Port?
My 16 years of working in the infrastructure sector give me a unique perspective on the challenges and growth opportunities for the Port of South Louisiana. The Mississippi River is the artery that drives commerce in our state, the country, and the world. The Port and its commissioners make decisions that ensure the sustainable economic future of our region. I don’t want the Port to be behind the curve or ahead of the curve. I want us to create the curve.
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, I took my oath to become a commissioner for the Port of South Louisiana. I want to thank my family and friends who have loved and supported me. Thank you, Mr. Joe Accardo, for administering my oath of office.
Amid the chaos and destruction that Hurricane Ida has caused St. John Parish and my home, I still choose to serve. I have the energy and passion for helping the Port of South Louisiana meet its full potential.
What are some upcoming projects or initiatives you’re excited about right now?
I am excited to help guide and work with the new incoming port director for the Port of South Louisiana. Paul Aucoin has laid the foundation for the continued growth of the Port. With the passion and determination of the Commission and the new incoming director, the future is bright, and new opportunities are on the horizon.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received in your career?
Find out who you are and do it on purpose. Have a path forward, but be flexible.
