On Friday, January 28th 2022, just before 3:00 a.m., the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to St. Charles Parish Ochsner Hospital in reference to a stolen vehicle.
Deputies learned that an ambulance owned by Acadian Ambulance Service was dropping off a patient, Jermie McCurley, at the hospital to receive medical services.
As the Acadian Ambulance EMS personnel were preparing to unload the patient, he was able to enter the driver’s area of the ambulance and flee in the vehicle.
Other responding deputies observed the ambulance at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 & Interstate 310. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle while utilizing their police lights & sirens; however, McCurley continued onto I-310 northbound refusing to pull over the ambulance.
In an effort to prevent erratic, dangerous driving behavior from McCurley as he attempted to evade capture from pursuing deputies, the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, it was learned that McCurley was located and captured in the Baton Rouge area.
