Laplace – On November 30, 2021 shortly before midnight, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a three vehicle crash on I-10 East near MP# 203 in Laplace. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 27-year-old Shakeisha T. Spencer of Virginia.
The initial investigation revealed that Spencer was driving a 2021 Nissan Altima east on I-10 in the left lane when it traveled off the roadway to the left, struck the bridge rail and then traveled to the right. At the same time, a 2016 Nissan Rogue and 2019 Jeep Compass were also traveling east on I-10 and impacted the Altima as it re-entered the eastbound lanes.
Spencer, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On December 1, 2021, Spencer died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment is unknown, however routine toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis as a part of the ongoing investigation.
Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Having a plan and making safe decisions could be the difference for tomorrow.
