On Tuesday, September 21, I celebrated my 87^th birthday. I’ve lived approximately 10 years above my life expectancy. My dad died in 1955 at age 48. Being only 20 years old, I thought that was old. Now I realize I’ve been married 15 years longer than my dad lived.

As we go through life, we often hear it said that time flies by, life is short, live life to the fullest, and plan as if you’ll live forever, but keep in mind that life is but a vapor. Live every day like it could be your last. James 4:14 states: “Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

In spite of many bad decisions I’ve made in the past, I’ve been blessed abundantly. Jeanne, who was the rock in our family, and I had four unselfish children, 15 grandchildren and are now expecting our 22^nd great-grandchild. We are both in fairly good health and don’t expect to quit living until our hearts stop. The bottom line is we believe that the best is yet to come, not only in this life, but definitely in our next.

Many people, including a few of my friends, lost their earthly homes during the recent hurricane. They were devastated and I can understand that. However, Christians can be assured by God’s Word in John 14: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

Their home in Heaven will not need insurance against hurricanes or any other disasters. That’s a promise from our Heavenly Father.
