The imposition of an emergency curfew enables our deputies to better protect your property by limiting the number of individuals walking our streets late at night with no purpose other than to take advantage of the situation and steal or commit other crimes.
As more businesses open and some power being restored, I have received requests to modify the curfew hours that are currently 8:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M. as we transition to a more normal environment. Most of the curfew arrests we have made have been of individuals out well past these times with no legitimate reason for roaming our streets. Several have also been involved in drug use, trafficking and theft.
All businesses should close by 10:00 P.M. giving patrons and employees time to return home before 10:30 P.M.
Please be aware that the 10:30 P.M. curfew will be strictly enforced unless citizens are on an emergency mission to assist someone, or, are going to and from their place of work. A letter from your employer would be helpful to our deputies in making this determination. Many neighborhoods and areas within the parish are still dark and without power. As soon as power and lights are restored extensively, we plan to eliminate any curfew except that which is permanent for juveniles.
