LAPLACE — Child safety fingerprinting, food, prizes and various demonstrations are all planned as part of St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Expo 2014.

The Expo runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 in the parking lot of Home Depot, located at 300 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said the day of family fun was planned with adults, as well as children, in mind.

“It’s an opportunity to show the community our resources,” Tregre said, adding Expo demonstrations will go over training practices.

A K-9 demonstration is planned for 10:15 a.m. and 12:34 p.m., and a stop stick demonstration is slated for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Tregre said he picked the date of Nov. 22 because it will be the start of a vacation week for many students, and said he hopes the day offers the community a fun activity to take advantage of.

Continuous Expo 2014 activities include a fatal vision goggle demonstration, mobile command center tours and the chance to meet characters Deputy See-more and Daren the D.A.R.E. Lion.

The St. John Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance will also be present at the Expo, which will offer free jambalaya and refreshments to attendees. Registration for a give-a-way will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the drawing held at 1:45 p.m.
