Hahnville – Parish President Matthew Jewell and the St. Charles Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are monitoring the tropical weather associated with INVEST 92L currently in the western Gulf of Mexico. The storm is predicted to impact St. Charles Parish with heavy rainfall ranging from 6-8 inches and winds of 35-40 mph are possible starting Friday remaining through Monday.

In preparation for the storm, sandbag locations will be open for St. Charles Parish residents only at the East and West Bank Bridge Parks, as well as the Bayou Gauche location at Badeaux Lane, beginning Thursday, June 17 at 8 a.m. Residents should only take what they need and bring their own shovels.

The Department of Public Works is preparing for the storm by checking pump stations, clearing storm drains and ensuring draining systems are fully operational.

The National Weather Service predicts coastal inundation of 1-3 feet between Friday through the weekend, and officials are monitoring St. Charles Parish water levels. A decision on boat launch closures will be made as the storm approaches.

While regular garbage services remain on schedule, residents should refrain from putting out bulk debris and take the time to clear yards, the tops of catch basins and ditches of debris that could become projectiles during high winds or cause clogs in the drainage system.
