Gonzales man pleads Guilty to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder after shooting over 2 year-old argument

Last week, Glenn Smith of 12123 Roddy Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities and Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. Smith was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a shooting incident in the City of Donaldsonville.
On September 29, 2019, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of West Fourth St. and Barcelona Dr. in Donaldsonville in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, detectives learned that the victim had been transported to a local hospital. Detectives learned that a male subject identified as “Glenn” was the shooter. Detectives quickly identified Glenn Smith as a suspect. Smith was located and transported to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning. During an interview with detectives, Smith confessed to shooting the victim over an argument that had taken place nearly two years prior. Smith was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Smith was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
