LAPLACE — Two of Alonzo Wilkens’ family members were arrested late last week for obstruction of justice, and St. John the Baptist Parish Mike Tregre said more arrests may be forthcoming.

Alonzo, 23, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at his sister’s home, located at 2355 N. Derbigny St. in New Orleans. He was the sole suspect sought for the homicide of Kentrell Bailey, the man found dead in a ditch at the intersection of Main Street and Farm Road in LaPlace July 28.

Numerous attempts of Sheriff’s Office detectives to find Alonzo were unsuccessful after a judicial court ordered arrest warrant was issued for him on Aug. 1.

According to authorities, detectives attempted to locate Alonzo through talking to his mother, Andrea Wilkens, several aunts and cousins.

Detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force spoke to Kyron Wilkens, Alonzo’s cousin on Thursday morning. Kyron told authorities he did not know Alonzo’s whereabouts and he had not seen him or talked to him.

Kyron later told detectives he was with Alonzo two days earlier. Detectives arrested and booked Kyron with obstruction of justice.

It was Kyron’s second arrest in one week for the charge.

He was arrested and booked with obstruction of justice on July 31 when he first lied to detectives during the homicide investigation.

For each arrest, Kyron posted a $10,000 bond.

On Friday morning detectives arrested and booked Andrea, Alonzo’s mother, with obstruction of justice.

During the search for Alonzo, the investigation revealed Andrea was actively communicating with her son.

Andrea is free after posting a $5,000 bond.
