RESERVE — Shawn A. Wallace, a lifelong resident of Saint John the Baptist Parish, announced his candidacy for School Board District 9.

Wallace has been employed with Ford Motor Company for 20 years. He’s a sales specialist with Veterans Ford in Metairie and a funeral representative with Robottom Mortuary.

He’s a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. A 1989 graduate of East Saint John High School, he holds an associate degree in process technology from South Central Tech College (River Parish Campus).

Wallace has been married to Shiria G. Wallace for 13 years, and they have two children.

Wallace said he believes in fiscal transparency, accountability and implementing the Common Core Standards in St. John the Baptist Public Schools.

“The Common Core Standards are the key components in achieving students’ proficient in reading, writing, math and critical thinking,” he said.

Wallace wants to implement a district-wide technology program. He is a strong advocate of music and athletics. He would like to implement a feeder program for music and athletics so that middle school students are prepared before entering high school.
