I got sober in a 12-step program stressing to everyone to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Many times I heard it said that it’s impossible to be hateful when you’re grateful. When that mind-set is part of your life, you become a positive person who people enjoy being with. Positive people enjoy life more, don’t get sick as often and when they do, they recover faster and live longer.
If gratitude and giving thanks to God are part of your daily pattern in life, then no unforeseen circumstance can create fear. It is only with gratitude that life becomes rich. I think I’ll write a book titled, “I’m Rich; I Just Don ‘t Have Any Money.”
The Bible says we should praise God in all things. “My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. ” (James 1: 2-3).
I’ll never forget when my daughter Ronny told me that her 10-year-old daughter Elise, was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. I immediately teared up and she said, “Daddy, God is just using us again to show His healing power and to be a witness to the power of prayer.”
Today, this is a reminder to me of I Thessalonians 5:18 — ” … in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ” Elise was healed, is now married, and has a beautiful, healthy little girl, Emma Kate.
One of the few things we control is our attitude and our relationship with Jesus.
As I approach age 86, I’m a witness that it’s impossible to be hateful when you’re grateful!
