Local nonprofit organization One Team – One Fight partnered with G.Smith Motorsports and The River Room Monday evening to host a first responders appreciation event at St. Charles Parish Hospital.

The event was a wonderful success with support from all of the St. Charles Parish Volunteer Fire Departments, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the St. Charles Parish Hospital employees and the St. Charles Parish EMS.

The Sheriff’s Office and Fire Departments put on a parade complete with flashing lights and sirens while the River Room prepared dinner and G.Smith Motorsports handed out goody bags. Recipients collected their food and treats in a drive-thru format to limit face-to-face contact.

Support for brothers and sisters in uniform has been seen throughout the River Parishes.

Last week, the staff at St. James Parish Hospital was surprised at shift change when St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. led a recognition ceremony in the Emergency Room parking lot with a group of other first responders from the area.

The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lutcher Police Department, Gramercy Police Department and local fire departments and fire services were in attendance.
