COVID-19 halts community events

LAPLACE — Several community events have been cancelled or postponed as current precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19 limit the amount of people that can gather in one area.
The annual Sings & Strings Jam Fest in Historic Garyville, originally scheduled for April 5, has been sadly postponed. A new date will be released on the Sings & Strings Jam Fest Facebook page.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) class set for March 21 has been postponed. A new date has not been announced. For more information, call Lt. Denise Bertrand at 985-359-8685.
The LaPlace VFW Poker Run fundraiser that was scheduled for March 21 has been moved to Sept. 20.
Given the recommendations of the CDC, One Team One Fight has postponed the First Responders Crawfish Boil referenced in Saturday’s edition of L’OBSERVATEUR to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 at the Monsanto Park in Luling.
The annual Bridge Run in St. Charles Parish has been cancelled in recognition of the governor’s orders. The event was meant to be a fundraiser for United Way of St. Charles.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries offices throughout the state will be closed to the public indefinitely.
St. John the Baptist Parish Animal Shelter services have been suspended. The staff will continue to feed and clean the animals, but the shelter will remain closed and services discontinued until further notice.
