CONVENT – Former law enforcement officer Barlon Cammon, 33, was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison and $500,000 in restitution for having sex with a teenager while infected with HIV.

Prosecutors in St. James Parish stated Cammon intentionally exposed the teenage boy to the virus through carnal knowledge. The two met on an online dating app, according to investigation, and prosecutors said Cammon did not reveal he was infected.

In October, Cammon was sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with a different teenager. Cammon was a deputy with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he was employed as a law enforcement officer in St. James Parish. .

He was arrested Dec. 9, 2015, after St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators said he engaged in sexual intercourse in St. John Parish with minors detectives believed were approximately 15 and 16 at the time.

According to authorities, the incidents occurred two to three years before his arrest.

A representative from the St. John Sheriff’s Office said juveniles cannot consent to having sex with an adult or when the age difference between the two parties is four years or greater.
