Reserve Man Arrested for Illegal Drug Activity

LAPLACE — Stephen Young, 58, of Reserve was arrested Monday, October 28 in connection to illegal drug activity in St. John Parish.
The St. John Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division initiated a narcotics investigation after receiving information that Young was selling illegal narcotics from a hotel in LaPlace. Detectives conducted surveillance at the hotel. Based on information collected during surveillance, detectives made contact and located marijuana on Young’s person. He was then arrested.
Based on investigation, detectives obtained a judicial search warrant October 28, 2019 and executed the warrant of Young’s room at the hotel. In plain view, detectives observed plastic bags and a digital scale. Concealed in a drawer of a nightstand, detectives discovered a medication bottle with 29 individually packaged bags of fentanyl with a combined total weight of about six grams. Hidden in a Bible in the same drawer was an undetermined amount of cash, about one gram of marijuana, and five Oxycodone pills. Concealed in a clothes hamper, detectives also located a large bag of fentanyl weighing about 28 grams.
Young was booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana (felony), possession with intent to distribute fentanyl (felony), possession of oxycodone, possession of drug paraphernalia 1st offense (misdemeanor) and possession of suboxone (felony). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $211,500 bond.
