LAPLACE — One-month-old MaryGrace Fink was born on May 1, just three days before her great-great grandmother turned 98.
Young and old came together last week for a family gathering that won’t soon be forgotten.
Alice Dupuy, 98, of Norco, was joined by daughter Faye Scioneaux, 69, of LaPlace; granddaughter Melissa Fink, 40, of Montz; great-grandson Ryan Fink, 22, and great-great-granddaughter MaryGrace Fink, 1 month, of Arkansas.
The gathering was arranged when Ryan, his wife and their newborn daughter traveled home to the River Parishes to visit family.
Ryan, a 2015 graduate of Destrehan High School, works in commercial industrial sales and handles the electrical aspect of control units. He has resided in Arkansas since Fall 2018.
Melissa said MaryGrace is Alice’s sixth great-great-grandchild born in recent years.
The oldest of the fifth generation children are around preschool age.
Melissa is grateful to have captured a moment so few families experience.
“It’s very special to me,” Melissa said. “My grandmother is a woman I really admire who has been there for our family through thick and thin. She’s 98 years old, still living by herself and taking care of herself.”
Melissa was born and raised in St. John the Baptist Parish. She works at First American Bank in LaPlace, while her mother, Faye, works at the First American Bank Norco branch.
