LULING — The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is holding an “MLK Day of Service” children’s book drive during January in order to support childhood literacy.

Director of RSVP Michelle Higgins said as part of the group’s commitment to serving others, members participate with other Senior Corps programs nationally.

“We have chosen a children’s book drive to help promote childhood literacy in our parish,” Higgins said. “We are asking for donations of new or gently used children’s books so we can then donate those books to children in our community.”

Donations can be dropped off at the RSVP office at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center at 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling and will be used to benefit local children. The MLK book drive is sponsored by RSVP of the River Parishes and the RSVP Advisory Council.
