Brady lauded as outstanding nursing student at SLU

HAMMOND — A St. John the Baptist Parish native and Southeastern Louisiana University student was recognized as a top student at the Annual College of Nursing and Health Sciences Honors Convocation in May.
Kellie Brady of Reserve, a St. Charles Catholic graduate, received the Opal Carl Award, presented yearly to an outstanding senior nursing student displaying professionalism and enthusiasm for the nursing profession, commitment to the practice of quality nursing care, participation in community health-related activities and exhibiting nursing leadership potential.
Brady served as president of Nurses Christian Fellowship, where she participated in the Race for the Cure, organized a Hurricane Isaac relief project and partnered organizations such as with the Volunteers of America of Greater Baton Rouge, the Hope House of Louisiana, Heritage Manor nursing home and God’s Littlest Angels, an orphanage in Haiti.
She was also the recipient of the Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship and was a member of the Student Nurses Association, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Southeastern Louisiana University’s Thirteen Club. Brady graduated Magna Cum Laude on May 17.
