Jay Childs placed first in the Speech event. The topic was “Refuel, Renew, Rethink.”
Taylor Robinson, from left, Hartley Faucheux and Laney Beadle placed second in Book Battle. They were assigned books to read and study leading up to the competition, where they had to work as a team to answer questions about those titles.
The Engineering team comprised of Hudson Heltz, from left, Dillon Duley, Brady St. Pierre, Lauren Laiche and Julia Laiche placed fourth in their event. They built a tower made out of newspaper, aluminum foil, straws, toothpicks and popsicle sticks that would support a baseball, marble, tennis ball and ping pong ball.
The Marketing and Communications team made up of Mikayla Penton, from left, Brooke Smith, Dane Galiano, Kate Brady, Owen Faucheux, Jackson Monica and Layla Jackson placed fourth for their school recycling display and promotional materials.
LAPLACE — The members of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School’s Jr. Beta Club participated at the annual District Day, which brought middle schools from the River Parishes together for a day of camaraderie and competition.
SJA’s club members spent weeks preparing for various events and had an extremely successful day, organizers said.
First and second place finishers will compete at the Jr. Beta Club State Convention in Lafayette in February.
