Every three months, our 1953 graduation class from Leon Godchaux High School gets together for lunch. On Thursday, we met at Middendorf’s in Manchac. We had 35 people in attendance, and it’s always a time of great fellowship.  

Middendorf’s is one of my favorite eating places. The food was excellent, and the service was handled by a team of pleasant waitresses working together and committed to making us feel special.  

After we all finished eating, we stood around talking, hesitating to say goodbye, not wanting the get-together to come to an end.  

I was ready to leave and noticed Jeanne talking to two ladies at another table. I assumed it was people she knew, so I walked over to introduce myself and found out they were strangers who stopped Jeanne to ask what the occasion was. They seemed impressed with the age of the group and how everyone seemed to be having such a good time.  

I found out the ladies were on their way home, which was near Memphis. Their names were Charlotte and Pam. We spoke for a while, and I forgot I was trying to get Jeanne to say goodbye and leave. Talking to them was a blessing!

As the conversation was coming to an end, Jeanne said, “Harold, Charlotte has a health problem. Let’s pray before we leave.”  

They were passing through the area after a visit to Ochsner Hospital. Charlotte shared that she needed a liver transplant. I then told her that my youngest sister, Judith, had a successful liver transplant at Ochsner seven years ago. I could see she was encouraged. We held hands and I prayed, not asking God, but thanking Him that a donor would be found soon and that the operation would be successful.  

Pam then asked, “Would you please pray for me to get a job and that I might sell my house?” She most probably read the Scripture which says that you have not, because you ask not.  

As we parted, I kissed the two ladies, wished them well and thanked them for making our day special.  

On the way home, I thought how God must love Jeanne and me a lot to allow us to meet two of His special people.
