DONALDSONVILLE — The Comets are over .500 again this season, following a 21-6 road win at Donaldsonville.

Sitting at 4-3, 2-0 in District, SCC used a familiar formula for success: Rushing touchdowns in the first half and strong defense throughout.

Senior running back Joseph Chiarella scored from eight yards out late in the first quarter to put St. Charles Catholic up seven early.

Sophomore Keenan Gauff struck next, this time from 65 yards out, extending the Comets lead to 14 seven minutes later to seize control.

SCC’s defense did the rest, giving up a lone touchdown pass late in the third quarter.

Justin Dumas closed out the scoring with a 12-yard scoring strike to tight end Logan Forsythe with five minutes left in the third quarter.

It was a strong showing for SCC, a week after St. Charles Catholic defeated Lusher 42-0 to open District 10-3A play.

The Tigers loss drops Donaldsonville to 3-4 this season.

SCC’s defense was especially strong Friday night neutralizing Donaldsonville’s speed via strong tackling and disciplined assignment defense.

West St. John

THIBODAUX — It stinks to play five straight road games, but it’s not so bad to shine on a college campus.

That was the case for the top-ten ranked West St. John High Rams (5-2), who defeated Covenant Christian Friday night at John L. Guidry Stadium on the Nicholls State University campus.

The Lions entered the game 5-1, but left the quasi-home game 26-point losers.

Covenant Christian’s Wing-T offense was good for single scores in each of the first three quarters but nowhere near enough to keep up with the high-powered Rams.

East St. John

RESERVE — The script was familiar for East St. John High Friday night.

The Wildcats (2-5, 1-2 in District) played well against a quality opponent — ESJH was down by one at halftime — but lost a close game late, this time by a 33-12 margin to the visiting Terrebonne Tigers.

Terrebonne (7-0, 3-0) entered the game ranked in the top 5 and showed every bit of why, dominating the second half to spoil homecoming in Reserve.

East St. John coach Brandon Brown said his team needed an excellent start to win. The Wildcats delivered that, but couldn’t finish strong over the final two quarters. They were outscored 20-0 in the final 24 minutes.
