LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish, together with Family Resources of New Orleans, will present a Housing Fair on Sat., Jan. 25, at the St. John Civic Center, 2900 Louisiana Highway 51 in Laplace. The event will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Admission to the fair is free. There will be fun for the entire family and prizes will be given out throughout the event.
The four-hour event will include question and answer sessions about rural development, securing loans to fix up your home, succession, selling your property, building on your land, and blighted properties.
Multiple educational sessions will also be available. Topics will cover buying a home, credit repair, mortgage programs and much more.
Besides attendees being able to talk one-on-one with real estate and mortgage professionals, St. John is introducing the USDA Mutual Self Help Housing Program administered by Family Resources, where qualified residents can build their homes for as little as one percent interest rate.
This program is for low-to-moderate income families and can also assist with removing blighted properties left behind by recent hurricanes. Homeowners with land that they are willing to sell and those who would like to build or rebuild are encouraged to attend. FRNO is HUD certified as well and offers credit counseling and homebuyer’s training for persons in need of those services.
Free vendor tables are available to businesses that assist with various real estate needs including, but not limited to, mortgage financing, furniture sales, contractors, builders and realtors. Interested vendors can email lovegoinghome@gmail.com or call 985-785-0570 for more information.
