Keller: Faith can heal nation divided in its viewpoints

I was born right after the Great Depression and a few years before the Second World War. I remember young men and women leaving to serve in the military to protect our freedom.
I recall the rationing of certain food items and the paper and scrap metal drives. I agree that war is hell.
Today, I treasure the positive things that happened. It united the country and everyone did their part to support the troops and help their neighbors. America was united.
We were considered a righteous nation that respected God.
America is now a divided nation. Our righteousness that once exalted America is now gone.
What happened?
Our moral condition is the root cause that produces greed, ungratefulness, slothfulness, selfishness and pride that leads to every other sin.
Should we fear the conditions of our once great nation? No. Our God is bigger than our country’s sins.
What’s the solution? It can be found as Paul warns in Romans 10:1-4:
“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
Maybe, as believers, we should do as God suggests in II Chronicles 7:14:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,” then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
If America is to be exalted, we have to return to the righteousness of God.
