Keller: Attitude control is our best option

If you ever attend a 12-step self-help program to overcome a problem, the first thing you are introduced to is the Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

I believe the greatest compliments that one can receive are: “I enjoy being with you.” and “I love your attitude.”

Attitude is defined as a manner of acting, feeling or thinking that shows one’s disposition.

I don’t know of anyone, including myself, who enjoys the company of a person with a bad attitude.

Having the wisdom to change what you can is a decision only you can make.

One of my favorite Christian authors and speakers, “Chuck” Swindoll stated: “Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a school…a home…a person. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.”

The bottom line is that we can’t control the way people act, but we can, one day at a time, control our attitude.

It’s been said that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it. We are in control of our attitude.
