LAPLACE — Two people were injured and a third person was killed Saturday night in LaPlace following a high-speed crash on I-10 in LaPlace, Louisiana State Police said.
Louisiana State Police Troop B officers began investigating the one-vehicle fatal crash on I-10 east at mile post 207 near the LaPlace weigh station shortly before 9 p.m.
Anthony Lewis, 59, of Baton Rouge was killed, authorities said.
Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling east on I-10 at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The Avalanche ran off the roadway and flipped several times, State Police said.
Lewis was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Troopers identified two other individuals involved in the crash. Ivan Johnson, 50, and Carlos Moore, 52, both of Baton Rouge, were taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.
The crash and exact seating positions of the three occupants are under investigation.
