PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Recent Riverside Academy graduate Nick Rose sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night on a senior trip to Panama City Beach.

Rose was rushed to a Florida hospital with a brain hemorrhage, skull fracture and collapsed lung. Over the weekend, he had part of his skull surgically removed to relieve swelling.

A CT scan showed Rose sustained brain damage from the trauma, according to a medical update from his mother, Tammy, though the extent of injury is unknown. As of Tuesday morning, doctors were beginning to wean Rose out of sedation while monitoring blood levels.

Rose’s family asks for prayers, and St. John the Baptist Parish community members are organizing opportunities to support Rose’s long road to recovery.

The Blood Center is hosting a replacement blood drive for Rose from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the LaPlace Winn-Dixie.

In lieu of complimentary T-shirts, The Blood Center is donating $10 per donation to Rose’s family for his medical treatment.
