A Morgan City man was killed in an ATV crash in St. Charles Parish on Sunday evening on Mar. 2.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers from Troop B began investigating a crash on LA 631 near St. Gertrude Lane just before 6 p.m., which resulted in the death of 22-year-old Bret Flowers from Morgan City.

The initial investigation shows that 28-year-old Tammy Flowers, of Morgan City, was driving a 2008 Can-Am Outlander ATV east on LA 631 with 22-year-old Bret Flowers as a passenger.

While trying to overtake another eastbound vehicle, the Can-Am driver crossed the center line and left the roadway, hitting the left front side of an unoccupied Jeep Cherokee parked on the grassy westbound shoulder.

Bret Flowers suffered critical injuries while Tammy Flowers suffered minor to moderate injuries.

They were not wearing helmets during the crash and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. On Mar. 5, Troopers were informed that Bret Flowers had succumbed to his injuries from the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from Tammy Flowers for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind the public that ATVs and UTVs are illegal on roadways unless for farming or duties specified in Louisiana Revised Statue 32:299.

Additionally, properly using safety equipment, such as DOT-approved helmets on motorcycles, ATVs, and UTVs and seatbelts when riding in UTVs, can reduce the risk of serious injury or death.
