As the countdown to Mardi Gras progresses, St. John the Baptist Parish prepares for its annual celebrations.
The Towahpahsah Parade starts at noon on Mar. 1, 2025, followed by the Krewe of Agape/Krewe of Dage Parade at 11:00 a.m. on Mar. 2, 2025.
Both parades will traverse traditional routes through Reserve and LaPlace, upholding cherished community traditions. The routes for the 2025 Towahpahsah Parade have changed slightly from those in 2024.
Last year, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre proposed significant changes to the route for public safety reasons. In a video posted on Facebook, Tregre said the proposal would move the route primarily to Airline Highway.
Tregre stated the route crosses railroad tracks twice, causing gaps between floats and disrupting the parade. He also noted that semitrailers struggle to turn in certain areas.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Civil Division will be closed on Monday, Mar. 3 and Tuesday, March 4, 2025 in observance of the Mardi Gras holiday. The Civil Division will reopen on Wednesday, Mar.5, at 8 a.m.
