St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is preparing for its seventh annual Citizens Academy, which starts on April 16. The free nine-week interactive program gives participants an informative, first-person perspective on law enforcement and how officers carry out their “Protect and Serve” mission daily.

Sheriff Mike Tregre announced that the Citizens Academy will meet weekly on Wednesdays to provide insights into the St. John Sheriff’s Office, including SWAT, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Technology.

“If you live or work in St. John Parish, we invite you to register for our Citizens Academy,” Sheriff Tregre said. “Any questions you’ve had about the why or how of police work will probably be covered and answered. You won’t be disappointed.”

The St. John Sheriff’s Office will hold its 2025 Citizens Academy every Wednesday from April 16 to June 18, from 5:45 to 9 p.m. at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center on Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. A meal will be provided.

Residents who live or work in St. John can attend the academy. The registration deadline is April 11.
