A man was arrested after allegedly shooting his older brother during an argument, stealing a car to flee, and attempting to dispose of the gun used.
Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office responded to a hospital Tuesday night regarding a man with a gunshot wound. The 55-year-old victim reported that his brother, 37-year-old Glenn Irvin, shot him at their home on Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace during a dispute over family matters.
According to St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre, the brothers’ mom had a house rule barring uninvited guests from the home. Irvin violated the rule, leading to a physical argument, Tregre said.
Irvin’s mother drove her injured son to Ochsner Medical Complex in LaPlace. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he remained in critical condition on Thursday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Irvin was arrested about 8 a.m. Wednesday in a vehicle that had been reported stolen a few hours earlier from a home in Edgard, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators found the gun they believe Irving used in the shooting on a canal bank on Greenwood Drive in LaPlace. A passerby spotted the weapon and called authorities.
He was booked for second-degree battery, theft of a motor vehicle, and obstruction of justice. Deputies recovered a gun on the side of the road Wednesday morning, which they believe to be the one used in the shooting.
