Mother’ Day was a quiet day for Jeanne and me. That afternoon I suggested we go for a ride to Reserve and visit the St. Peter’s Cemetery. We both have family members who rest in peace there, including my mother, grandmother, sister, Jeanne’s mother, and our daughter, Kay.
We reflected on their lives and not their death. We didn’t pray for the deceased, but remembered all the good they meant to us. We stayed over an hour in the cemetery and were amazed at the number of people we grew up with who are no longer living.
On our return home, we realized that being in our late 80s, we are facing our last days.
I was reminded of what I read recently which stated that the last minutes in our life should be the most exciting because, as Christians, we know that the best is yet to come. I’ve heard many times that the joy of this life is knowing that it will soon end.
Do I think about my everyday life coming to an end? Yes, I do, but that doesn’t bother me. I’m enjoying life. My only focus is being prepared when that time comes.
