This afternoon St. John School Superintendent Rebecca Johnson released a letter to stakeholders stating that at approximately 11:47 a.m. St. John Sheriff’s Office had notified the East St. John Preparatory and East St. John High School administration that it received a call suggesting that a student was bringing a gun on campus.
The schools were informed to secure the campuses, placing the students on lockdown as a precautionary measure while SJSO investigated. Officers were dispatched to the schools.
It was learned that the call originated from North Carolina and that there is no credible threat to any St. John Parish school. Lockdown was lifted at 12:32 p.m. Law enforcement, however, remained in place at the schools as the investigation continued.
This comes a week after a student at another St. John Parish school was arrested for allegedly joking to shoot up a school.
