Officers Make Arrest in Contractor Fraud Case

Wojciech Niznik, 37, a Polish national residing in Hammond, was arrested March 27 in connection to several contractor fraud cases in St. John the Baptist Parish.
In the summer of 2022, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office received complaints from local residents in reference to contractor fraud committed by Niznik. Based on investigation, detectives obtained warrants for Niznik’s arrest.
The LA Attorney General’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit captured Niznik on March 27 in Ponchatoula. Investigative assistance was provided by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Diplomatic Security Service.
Anyone who has a similar complaint that is connected to Niznik and has not been reported is asked to call Det. Lt. Michael Shard of the SJSO Cyber/Financial Crimes Unit at 985-359-8764.
Niznik was booked with two counts of theft by fraud $1000 – $5,000 (felony); three counts of residential contractor fraud (felony); and engaging in business of contracting without authority; penalty (felony). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
